Prepare

Position

Peace lily like a warm position that is out of direct sunlight. Peace lilies are ideal for either a lower lit or brightly lit room, if they are not in direct sunlight. In lower light they may not flower as well.

Soil

Peace lilies are best grown in Kings House Plant Mix.

Plant

Repot your peace lily in spring when there are roots showing at the bottom of the pot. Pot into a new pot, 2 sizes up from the existing pot. Replant into Kings House Plant Mix

Care

Watering

Peace lilies are hardy and forgiving but will let you know when they are thirsty as their leaves will start drooping. They prefer to be kept moist but are more tolerant to underwatering than overwatering. Water about once a week in spring and summer, and only when the soil dries out in autumn and winter. Never allow the roots to sit in water as this will cause roots to rot.

Feeding

To encourage flowering, feed with Kings House Plant Liquid Food regularly during Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

Spraying

Peace lilies can be prone to Mealy Bug. Spray at first sight with Groventive Garden.

Pruning

Once flowers have been pollinated, they will start to turn green. At this point, cut the flowers off at the base. Expect your peace lilies to flower in spring (although technically, the bloom is bract, not a flower). Some very healthy plants may flower into autumn. Once the flower fades to green, cut off at the base as the plant won't bloom again in the same spot.

General Care

Occasionally wipe the leaves to keep them dust free. Or give them a quick wash in the shower but make sure the water is tepid.

Beginner Tip

Peace lilies do not mind being somewhat root bound, so do not repot until there are roots coming out of the bottom of the pot.

Expert Tip

Inconsistent watering or drying out will cause the tips of the leaves to go brown.

Tip

When using sprays, chemicals or fertilisers always read the label and follow the instructions. Apply sprays in the evening to avoid harming beneficial insects.
