Prepare

With their vibrant flowers Calceolaria are well suited for use in garden beds and containers. They can be grown as a Indoor plant as long as they are in a well lit position but out of direct sun.

Position

Calceolaria prefers a position in partial to full shade, with shelter from strong winds.

Soil

When planted into the ground Calceolaria prefer a free-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. To improve the organic content in your soil, break up the soil and add Kings Compost and Kings Sheep Pellets then mix together well. When growing in containers, plant into Kings Container mix. This mix contains Saturaid, which helps with moisture retention in the soil.

Plant

When planted into the ground mix compost and sheep pellets into the existing soil. When grown in pots outside plant into Container mix, for indoor plants, plant into Kings House Plant mix.

Care

Watering

Water in the morning so foliage dries before nightfall.

Feeding

Fertilise through spring, summer and autumn with Kings Liquid Fast Food.

Protecting

Slugs and snails can be a problem, regular application of Tui Quash will keep them under control.

Remove old flowers as they fade and any leaves that have yellowed.

Beginner Tip

Do not overpot, plant into a pot only slightly larger than the pot the plant was in. To larger pot and too much soil can result in root rot.
